Way Down Hadestown đŸŒș

Been waiting to see Hadestown since it premiered in the West End in February following great success on Broadway. And it did not disappoint - I loved the catchy jazzy music with a touch of soul and country, and the carefully planned and beautifully executed stage lighting and shadows.

Hadestown tells the Greek myth of the love story and struggles of two couples - Orpheus the son of a muse, his lover Eurydice, Hades the god of the Underworld, and his missus Persephone, narrated by Hermes and the Fates. Every character is perfectly cast for the role and brings a distinctive spin in musical genre.

West End cast:

  • DĂłnal Finn as Orpheus

  • Grace Hodgett Young as Eurydice

  • Zachary James as Hades

  • Gloria Onitiri as Persephone

  • Melanie La Barrie as Hermes

  • Allie Daniel, Bella Brown, Madeline Charlemagne as the Fates

Even the drinks at the bar were named after Greek gods and goddesses:

My favourite moment of the production had to be the Wait For Me scene where Orpheus was on his journey to the underworld - the stage effect, choreography, music and the build up of the dramatic tension were spectacular! DĂłnal Finn (Orpheus) killed it with his iconic vocal range and an incredible control in his voice! Breath-taking!

Favourite line? From Come Home With Me:

Eurydice: A singer, is that what you are?
Orpheus: I also play the lyre
Eurydice: Oh a liar, and a player too! I’ve met too many men like you 💀

Too good!
