My latest project is a Cinderella-inspired crochet bag for the 4-year-old princess Isabella ❤️ It is such a fun project to work on, I love the softness of the Flutterby yarn, and the palette of pinks and blues that work really well together!
Step 1: Shaping the bag
I found this pattern of a pumpkin carriage which I have adapted to be the body of the bag. The Flutterby yarn is so soft and fluffy it is the perfect material for the bag - not to mention it is machine washable! With this thicker yarn, the bag measures ~7 inches wide.
Step 2: Accessorising the bag
Instead of using round white wheels as in the original pattern, I have made a long crochet chain, starting with the Flutterby yarn and finishing the last row with a darker blue cotton yarn. I then stitched it to the bottom of the bag in the shape of the wheels, leaving 1/3 of either loop hang loose from the corners of the bag.
I have also created the doors of the carriage by outlining a white oval shape with the same darker blue yarn. Then, I ironed the "I" initial and attached the door piece to the bag (Tip: applying heat/pressure on the Flutterby yarn will squish the material - so apply the iron-on patch before stitching the shape to the bag!)
Step 3: Finishing off the bag
Here I have closed the bag with a white and silver zipper, and made an inner lining with some scrap fabric that I have. The bag strap is actually a phone strap with an adjustable length of 76cm-146cm which is the perfect length of a cross body bag for a little girl.
Step 4: Wrapping the bag
A project is not complete without the wrapping! To customise a plain pink gift box, I have printed on a label sheet a scene from the Cinderella cartoon - and there you have it, "Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo", say the magic phrase and reveal your princess carriage bag!
